TABIANO WATER
Tabiano Water – Water n. 1 in Europe
In 1800 the beneficial spa water was already recognised as the one having the highest sulphide content in Europe and still it is considered one of the waters with the highest concentration of sulphates and sulphide gases.

General Features

The Tabiano spa mineral water originates from springs and wells. The water is cold- source, highly mineralised (sulphate- calcium- magnesium type) with a high bicarbonate (about 600 mg/l) and a very high hydrogen sulphide content.
In 1800 the beneficial spa water was already recognised as the one having the highest sulphide content in Europe and still, today, it is considered one of the source with the highest concentration of sulphates and sulphide gases. The spa water is formed by the scouring action of meteoric water on pitted limestone formed in the Tabiano area during the Messinian period and it is used after a long course in the depths of the earth. The source therefore combines the purity of water that has undergone an intense filtering process with the wealth enhancement of mineral salts formed millions years ago.
The natural balance between gases ( hydrogen sulphide) and substances ( sulphates, bicarbonates, calcium and magnesium) has created a water full of general and local properties: In disorders of the respiratory functions it helps the recovery of the viscoelacity of the mucus and the normalization of IgA secretories ( the first defence of the respiratory system) and it induces the rise of antioxidant substances.
Calcium performs a myorelaxing action, while the sulphates stimulate the mucous secretion of the respiratory organs and the bicarbonates have an anti-inflammatory effect. Sulphur acts on the skin, penetrating the cutaneous film and the piliferous zone, and on the liver, supporting the glutathione synthesis, excellent antioxidant agent.

Sulphureous waters

Waters can be considered sulphurous when they contain at least 1 mg/l of hydrogen sulphide (H2S), also called Sulphyrometic degree (g.s.).

According to the sulphydrometric degree they can be divided into:

  • Weak: g.s. da 1 a 10 mg/l
  • Medium: g.s. da 10 a 100 mg/l
  • Strong: g.s. > 100 mg/l

In sulphureous waters sulphur is found chemically in bivalent shape while in sulphate waters it is in an hexavalent shape.
Sulphur participates to many essential functions that assure the homeostatic equilibrium of the organism:

  • cellular oxide-reductive processes
  • cellular and tissue increase and replication
  • permeability of the cellular membrane and the vascular wall, etc.

It has been ascertained that sulphur is present in the connective tissues in two different compounds where the SH group is also present: the first ( free sulphydril) are easily extractable, the second ( proteic sulphydril) are connected to the proteins and they can be freed only by destroying those same proteins.
Most of the cellular sulphur is contained in the proteic molecule of the protoplasm under the shape of sulphured amino acids ( methionine, cystine, cysteine) and especially under the shape of glutathione, tripeptide made of glutamic acid, cysteine and glycin.
It is present both in oxidized (GSSG) and reduced (GSH) shape, it constitutes the most important oxide-reductive system from an intra end extra-cellular level and it actively intevenes in the cellular respiration even in case of hoxygen absence. Furthermore, the oxidization of the SH group is essential in the determination of the catalytic activity of some enzymes which are active only if the sulphydril groups of their molecule are free.

General Actions

It is a sulphurous-sulphate-calcium-magnesium water with an high sulphuretted content. Particolarly indicated and effective for:

  • mucolytic action ( especially connnected to the Hydrogen sulphide)
  • cilioactive action and improvement of the mucociliar transport
  • normalization of the IgA secretories production
  • strenghthening of the antioxidant resistance systems
  • antiflogistic action
  • bacteriostatic action

It produces its benefic properties through both general actions and a combination of local actions.

Among the general actions we find:

  • action on the neurovegetative system
  • action on the circulation with a particolar vasodilating capillary effect
  • antioxidant action, free radicals and peroxidasis get reduced with the Tabiano Water therapy
  • metabolic actions, decrease of the basal glycemia, normalization of the metabolism
  • detoxicating action, connected to the sulphur property of blocking heavy metals like lead, mercury, etc.
Among the local actions we find:
  • regolating action on the mucosecreting system
  • eutrophic and revitalizing action on mucous membranes and ciliary apparatus
  • normalization of the IgA secretories production and increase of the local immune systems
  • increase of glutathione supply, critical factor for the protection from oxidant radicals.
These characteristics make Thermal Tabiano Waters extremely suitable and effective for ORL and bronchopneumatologic treatments.
In otolaryngology they find useful application for the following illnesses: secretive otitis media (OMS); catarrhal otosalpingitis; rhinitis and chronic catharral rhinosinusitis; cases of nasal, allergic or vasomotor iperactivities; pharyngitis and laryngitis.
In bronchopneumatology they can be used for the treatment of: chronic catarrhal and obstructive bronchopathosis; bronchoectasis, rhino-sinusitisis bronchial syndromes; asthmatic bronchitis.

Therapeutical Indications

Thermal Tabiano Water is successfully used in the treatment and preventions of bronchi, ear, nose, throat and skin illnesses.
The high mineral salt content including sulphur, calcium, bicarbonates and magnesium makes this thermal water particularly indicated in the treatment of respiratory infections with catarrhal and allergic hyperreactive forms.
Excellent results are also obtained by using them in the treatment of many skin disorders and on scar tissue from burns.
The drinking water cure helps to adjust the liver functionality and to increase the antioxidant defences.
